Hailing from Quebec, these twin sisters, who have earned themselves acclaim in the classical music circles, are now in Mumbai to give audiences a taste of their music.
Flautist Nadia Labrie and guitarist Annie Labrie who dabble in various styles of classical music bring out a myriad of emotions through their performance. ?
We love playing in the Latin-American style and always try to produce sensitive music which has an effect on our listeners,? says Nadia. While she very seriously talks about being a classical musician, the next minute she spurts out that her favourite pop icons are Black Eyed Peas and Shakira.
The duo, who call themselves Similia, have three albums to their credit. ?I wanted to play the harp initially but then I took up the guitar,?
says Annie. She recalls going to the Pink Floyd concert in Montreal and being greatly inspired by it.
After performing with a quartet in Kolkata, the twins now gear up for their concert in Mumbai at NCPA on October 18.
?We listen to Pandit Ravi Shankar?s music, so Indian music is not new to us.
We had a wonderful experience in Kolkata and the best compliment we received was that nobody would forget the evening. We hope to hear those words in Mumbai too,? smiles Annie.
