Los Angeles, CA (AHN) - Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards may be announcing his bid for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination on television tonight as a guest on Comedy Central's The Daily Show.
On September 15, 2003, Edwards made his announcement on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, after he promised to do so in 2002, when the Daily Show was covering the midterm elections.
Edwards, who became the Democratic vice presidential nominee in 2004, declined to seek reelection to the U.
S. Senate at the same time.
As a result, Edwards has been absent from politics since then, yet in 2003 he led the initial campaign fundraising race with $7 million in just one quarter.
Democrats have long been looking for a candidate who can draw as much money from supporters as the GOP does from its base.
