THE online services of the biggest supermarkets have been branded "dismal" in a test which found some major retail names to be slow, inaccurate and short of stock.
Five of the biggest internet grocers, including Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda, were all below the mark when it came to delivering a simple list of 33 items.
Analysts blasted the stores for failing to provide the same level of service on the internet that is provided to customers who go to stores.

Basic products like cherry tomatoes and a French baguette were not even listed on some websites, only one of the five could deliver the next day and none could provide all 33 items.
And even though the shoppers in the test for trade journal The Grocer found it easy to use the websites, all were eventually disappointed with the service they received.
Asda did not have two of the 33 items on its website, the next available delivery was three days later, two items were out of stock and not delivered and one was a substitute item.

Asda used 12 bags to contain the groceries, twice as many as Tesco, and delivered two items not asked for, leaving the customer with a free herbal bath and jar of pesto sauce.
Ocado, the online supermarket service which does not have shops, could not provide a baguette on the website and did not deliver rice, which was out of stock.
Like Asda, it could only offer a delivery three days later and called earlier than it said, while the customer was out.
