Liz Lemon is the head writer of The Girlie Show , a musical/variety show starring Jenna Maroney. Liz oversees a gang of surly, unkempt writers who respond well to the box of 150 hot dogs she brings in to work. Who doesn t love hot dogs?

I should get a t-shirt that reads Will Write for Wieners and see if Hollywood comes knocking down my door with a two-picture development deal. Gosh, I hope so.
But where was I?

Liz and executive producer Pete are called upstairs to meet Jack (no, not ), the new vice president of development of east coast programming, or pudding basins. I m not really sure, but I do know this: the show didn t seem funny to me until Jack (played by a gleeful Alec Baldwin) appears. Jack s talent is taking things that already work and fixing them, which is how Liz describes it, and she s not wrong.

Jack thinks the show needs to be re-tooled so he suggests movie star Tracy Jordan. Liz is not buying it, so Jack suggests she meet Tracy for lunch to make sure he s right for the show.
Tracy, entourage in tow, balks at the pumpkin ravioli offered him at lunch.

Liz, looking like Laura Bush in a I m going to meet the guy who s going to save my not-struggling show and therefore, by extension, my ass power suit, is aghast when she is dragged to a diner uptown, then eventually up to a strip club in the Bronx. Liz finds out that not only is she adept at pole work but that Pete was fired while she was out to lunch. She and Tracy race back to the studio, where the show has already begun.

Liz intends to quit in protest over Pete s dismissal but when she sees how easily Tracy saves a horrible sketch from going south over some mangy cats, she relents, and 30 Rock has a new cast-member.
Personally, I liked this show fine. I think Tina Fey isn t necessarily her own best leading lady, and that Rachel Dratch is doomed to be under-used (she was originally suppposed to play the role of the Girlie Show star played by Jane Krakowski), but come on people.

This is the chick who wrote Mean Girls! Let s give her a shot. Maybe it s just me, but I was under the impression that the comedy designation of a program implied (or is inferred?

) there would be an element of comedic entertainment present in the said program.
Following this impression further, I found Fey s program completely void of anything close to comedy
I like Fey just fine. Usually I find her very entertaining.

It could be the material ,the acting or I need to adjust my meds again.
This year,so far ,has been very disappointing new-program-wise.
