Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba is now the Premiership's top scorer. This was after his hat-trick in Chelsea's 4-0 win over Watford took his tally to eight for the season - one more than Nigeria's Nwankwo Kanu of Portsmouth. There was a goal for another Ivorian - better known for his defensive skills than his goal scoring feats.

Arsenal are third in the table, seven points behind Chelsea who are in second position, with Manchester United leading the way by three points. Senegal striker El Hadji Diouf, who is currently on police bail after an alleged assault on his wife, put his troubles to one side as he gave his side Bolton the lead at Sheffield United. Ivory Coast striker Ibrahima Bakayoko scored for a second consecutive weekend but it was not enough as his Livorno side lost 3-2 to Catania.

Nigerian striker Ikechukwu Uche got his first goal for mid-table Recreativo Huelva, who managed a 2-1 win away at Celta Vigo. Sibusiso Zuma scored in Arminia Bielefeld's 3-0 win at Eintracht Frankfurt before he was substituted in the 75th minute. Bonaventure Kalou gave Paris Saint-Germain the lead against Le Mans after 10 minutes from the penalty spot, but Le Mans fought back to make it 1-1.

In the 2-2 draw between Nantes and visitors Saint Etienne, Morocco midfielder Nourdin Boukhari scored the second for the hosts. Earlier, Guinea midfielder Pascal Feindouno had scored for Saint Etienne.
