(RTTNews) - Seoul shares finished Thursday's trading session significantly higher, tracking overnight gains on Wall Street and Bank of Korea's decision to leave interest rate unchanged at its monthly rate session. The chief KOSPI gained 19.37 points or 1.

09 trillion won were traded, with advancing issues leading declining ones by 433 to 171. The South Korean won dropped against the U.S.

dollar. Earlier in the day, the Bank of Korea left the call rate flat at 4.5% for a third consecutive month to boost a stalling economic recovery.

The central bank's decision triggered buying in lending and construction stocks. Among the financial stocks, Kookmin Bank advanced 1.2% and the country's second leading banking player Shinhan Financial Group surged 2%.

In the tech space, Samsung Electronics shot up 2.6% after the company said that its 20- to 22-inch monitors, to be launched next month, would be used for computers with a new Windows operating system called Vista. Vista is expected to be available for retail customers beginning January 30, 2007.

Chipmaker Hynix Semiconductor gained over half a percent, while LG Electronics firmed up 2.7%.
