Residents in the town of Easton have likely seen Easton Garden Club members furiously cutting evergreen branches and collecting other interesting plant materials in preparation for the 2006 Christmas House Tour. The House Tour is scheduled, rain or shine, for the dates of Saturday, Dec. 9, from 2 to 7 p.

m. and Sunday, Dec. 10, from 11 a.

m. to 4 p.m.

Tickets are available in advance for 22 by Nov. 25 through the Garden Club's web site www.eastongardenclub.

org. Tickets purchased on the day of the show will be 25.

It has been three years since the Garden Club hosted a house tour so the excitement for this tour is buzzing.

The Club members begin planning for the event early in the year. Houses are selected based upon parking availability and floor plan. The houses featured in 2006 are located at 6 Reagan Road, 19 Flyaway Pond Drive, 16 Cornerstone Drive and 5 Jennifer Way.

Once the houses are selected, a House Tour Committee plans a theme for the show and for each address. This year's theme is Holidays Around the World. Each of the four houses will represent holiday d e cor for Christmas and Hanukah celebrated in various countries.

Months of planning is involved in evaluating the homes' architectural features, measuring the rooms' mantels, stairways and tables, and visualizing the roping, swags and topiaries that would best depict the show's theme in each unique space. The Easton Garden Club decorates with plant material gathered from the landscape or purchased from gardening centers and floral suppliers. Miles of wire and tape and pounds of glue and oasis will tie the arrangements together.

Visitors at the house tour should look high and low to see the many touches crafted and placed by artistic Garden Club volunteers.

The Easton Garden Club plans fundraisers such as the Christmas House Tour to fund beautification projects throughout the town of Easton. Recently, the Garden Club replanted the beds at the Easton Town Offices.

Easton's Main Street businesses receive seasonal flower box arrangements to beautify their storefronts. Garden Club volunteers provide upkeep for the landscape at the Center School and Yardley Rink. The Club also arranges for flower deliveries to local rehab centers and nursing homes.

Some of the flowers are used for therapeutic flower arranging sessions and some simply provide cheer to the staff, residents and visitors. The Garden Club also offers an annual scholarship to college bound Easton residents pursuing studies in horticulture, conservation, landscape or other related fields.
