Former Senegal captain Aliou Cisse has joined the French first division side Sedan. The 30-year-old signed a one-year contract with a further year's option after completing a seven-day trial at the Ligue 1 side. Cisse, who had a previous spell at Sedan, was released by the English Premiership side Portsmouth at the beginning of this season.

"I have good memories of Sedan and it is the club where I played my best football," he said. Cisse has been signed to help improve the fortunes of the struggling French side, who are just a place above bottom- placed Monaco in the standings. "There is an important challenge for everyone- me, the players, the fans," Cisse said.

"It is necessary that we impose ourselves on the teams that visit our ground." He has already played for the French sides Lille, PSG and Montpellier. final of the African Cup of Nations, losing on penalties to Cameroon.
