White Plains ndash; A former music teacher at the Hommocks Middle School in the Town of Mamaroneck Thursday pleaded guilty in Westchester County Court to rape in the third degree and endangering the welfare of a child.
From September 2003 to March 2006, Omar Rodriguez, Jr., 27, inappropriately touched a number of his students and had a sexual relationship with one 16-year-old child at the time at a location outside the school in the Village of Mamaroneck where he lived.
As a condition of probation, a 10 year permanent order of protection will be issued on behalf of all of his victims and after satisfaction of his sentence ndash; to be doled out in January ndash; he will be registered for 10 years as a sex offender.
Rodriguez will also relinquish his New York State teaching license.
ldquo; When anyone in a position of trust and authority, particularly a teacher, exploits that position, they will be held strictly accountable, rdquo; said District Attorney Janet DiFiore.
ldquo; This defendant exhibited extremely poor judgment by purposely crossing the line between teacher and student and engaged in inappropriate relationships with some of those students.
