The People's Daily, China's leading newspaper, today hails the successful holding of the Summit of the Forum on China-African Cooperation (FOCAC) in an editorial entitled "jointly creating a new situation in Sino-African Friendship and Cooperation," which runs as follows:.
At the Beijing Summit and Third Ministerial Conference of FOCAC, which were held from Nov. 3rd to 5th, Chinese leaders and heads of state and government leaders or representatives of 48 African countries gathered in Beijing to talk heartily over Sino-African friendship, discuss major cooperative measures and seek for future development and wrote a new chapter of friendship together.
Since new China and African countries officially started their diplomatic ties 50 years ago, China and Africa have all along stood closely, joined ranks and tided over difficulties together. They have sympathized and supported each other either in years of struggles for national independence, freedom and liberation or in the course of safeguarding state sovereignty and building up their nations. In a new era of revitalizing their economies and attaining development, China and African countries decided to open the Beijing Summit of FOCAC, which has a historic significance of serving a link between the past and future.
