LAWRENCEVILLE - This is Mariah Cain's second year in the chorus, but "I like it outside," said Mariah, a fifth-grade student at Simonton Elementary School. "It's cold, but I got used to it." Lawrenceville Square for Art in the Park, an event organized by the the school choruses and student soloists.
They also looked at the student art that was on display, which included self-portraits, photographs, pinwheels and aluminum-foil sculptures. "It's really busy out here," Mariah said. "I couldn't find anyone I Judy Stephens, principal of J.
E. Richards Middle School, said the event cluster, and it was meant to re-establish a sense of community. Betty Echols, who has a fifth-grade son who performed with Cedar Hill Elementary School's chorus, said the event allowed everyone in the "Otherwise, we don't see each other," Echols said.
Adam Cain, Mariah's father, said he was enjoying the beautiful day. "It's nice gathering out on the square on an ordinary day," Cain said. "What our teachers can pull out of our children is unbelievable," Catrina Jones, the PTA president at Simonton Elementary School, said she came with her daughter and son to support the school.
Her son, who is in first grade, was looking at all of the pinwheels, trying to find "He said he used blue," Jones said, as she watched her son run up and down the line of pinwheels, pausing at each one that featured blue. Valerie Clark, principal of Central Gwinnett High School, said the event brought together parents, teachers, students, cousins and friends and made "people feel like Black Knights." "We're delighted to showcase our students," she said.
