Stage and screen stars Stockard Channing and Allison Janney will perform in Glimmerglass Opera's upcoming tribute to the late playwright Wendy Wasserstein.
The event mdash; titled "An Uncommon Woman: A Celebration of Wendy Wasserstein and Music" mdash; will take place November 28 at the Colony Club in Manhattan. In addition to the readings of Wasserstein selections, the evening will screen excerpts from the Glimmerglass commission The Festival of Regrets by Wasserstein, and feature a performance of songs from Pamela's First Musical by alumni of Glimmerglass Opera's Young American Artists Program and members of the Mount Holyoke Chamber Singers.

Co-stars on the concluded NBC show The West Wing, both Stockard Channing and Allison Janney are also noted stage performers. Janney was Tony Award-nominated for her turn in Broadway's A View From the Bridge and also appeared in Present Laughter as well as in Off-Broadway's The Taming of the Shrew, Blue Window, New England, Breaking Up and Five Women Wearing the Same Dress. Channing earned a Tony for A Day in the Death of Joe Egg and has been nominated for her turns in The House of Blue Leaves, Six Degrees of Separation, Four Baboons Adoring the Sun and The Lion in Winter.

Wasserstein also penned the libretto for The Festival of Regrets, one of a trilogy of one-act operas collectively called Central Park which premiered at Glimmerglass Opera and New York City Opera in 1999. Pamela's First Musical was adapted by Wasserstein from her children's book of the same name and scored by composer Cy Coleman and lyricist David Zippel.
