by (tracking-software) @ Sat, 04 Nov 2006 09:19:45 -0500 Staying true to the tradition, I welcome Toronto artist Adam Marshall to the show for a 60 min. podcast on all things techno. We cover all the bases: his techno history, early pieces of hardware, software vs.

vinyl, and some of those great stories about what brought him to where he's at today. Not only that, we end the show with a couple of tracks from his New Kanada label including a track from his upcoming EP - Naked(NK03). From the Orb to dub techno, right on up to today, sit in on our session as we talk it out.

This year we have not only seen a whole variety of Windows Mobile 5 devices hit the market, we have also seen the first UMPC devices being released. With the launch of Vista just around the corner (are you ?) we will see operating system convergence such that Tablet PCs, laptops, UMPCs and desktop machines will all be running the same OS.

With coming versions of Windows Mobile we are also likely to see a further convergence between the smartphone and pocketPC operating systems. In this show joins me to talk about how we can optimise our development process for building applications that work across different mobile platforms.

RelaunchIconRelaunch is a Mac OS X menu bar utility that allows you to take snapshots of running applications and then Relaunch them.
You can take snapshots of any combination of OS X applications and name them by context, e.

g. Work , Play , Development etc. As well as remembering and launching applications that you had open it also knows how to re-open individual documents for over 20 popular mac applications, so not only will it restart the application itself, but it will also re-open the files you were working on when you took the snapshot.

Relaunch also allows you to get back to the task in hand quickly after say, a software update that requires a restart or a power cut using it s incredibly simple to set up Auto-Snapshot feature. Instead of logging back into an empty desktop Relaunch will fire up everything that was running before your mac shutdown.
Relaunch requires OS X Tiger and is a Universal Binary that will run on both Intel and PowerPC based Macs.

Relaunch is shareware and only costs 5 to register, once registered all future updates are free.
What s new in Version 1.3?

As well as being able to restart *any* previously running application, Relaunch now also supports monitoring individual documents that you were working on in over 20 common mac applications including the following
Installing Relaunch, like most OS X applications is as simple as downloading it and copying it into your Applications folder.
When it is first run Relaunch will add itself to your login items, to ensure that it will be there to start your Apps for you when you next log in or reboot.
Relaunch is controlled through it s menu options, these are explained below:
Auto Snapshot - Automatically keeps track of what you re doing - so you don t have to.

Launch Snapshot - Open a snapshot and launch all the applications in it.
Save Snapshot - Take a snapshot of all currently open applications and save it to disk.
About Relaunch - Show the About dialog and version information.

Preferences - Set the Auto Snapshot frequency from anywhere between 1 minute and 1 hour as well as check for software updates.
Purchase - Buy Relaunch, it only costs 5 and all future updates are free!
Relaunch 1.

0 was reviewed on Softpedia and was given 3 stars and an overall rating of Good but needs more features . Hopefully version 1.1 will go some way to redressing this, there s more in the pipeline too - so keep checking back!

I've added another new category to the blog, Marketing Your Music Online . I'll kick off the first post in this category with a discussion of Flash technology to server audio from a web site.
Flash is such a fantastic tool for presenting audio and video on the web.

Why? Well because the flash plug-in is pretty much standard issue on all internet enabled computers which means your audience will spend more time listening to your tracks and not messing with downloads and media players. As a side note, Flash is the technology used by www.

youtube.com to stream video.
I'm fluent in flash programming, so I used it to create a custom audio player to promote a track from the an audio book project of mine .

I embed the actual player in this blog so give it a try.
I used an image of a vintage WWII Radio, then edited the image to place display surfaces for my player controls. I then created some embossed text and wings to brand the player.

The player streams audio so even on a slow connection, users will hear the audio before it has finished downloading the entire file to their system. The entire player application is 21k!!

!
Now I realize you might not be a Flash programmer, so below is a list of Do-it-yourself audio players. To use these you'll need to know how to upload files to your web server, as well as need to have enough web skills to place a chunk of html into an existing page.

CoffeeCup Software's Web Jukebox is the easiest way to go.

It has a wizard like interface that allows you to take mp3's and publish them so fans can listen to them on your Website. It comes with over 20 player designs. The program has a built-in tool that automates file uploads to your web server, and gives you the html code you need to plug into your web page.

A more advanced player is the Wimpy player. Don't let the name fool you, this player has many advanced features like; playlists from folders on you servers, jukebox audio from podcast feeds custom skinning, eCommerce integration and more.

This player is more complex and more difficult to implement, but worth a look if you are a technically savvy with web sites. To learn more and check out a free trial, go here -
