WASHINGTON, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- The wireless phone industry predicts that iPod digital music players will become antiquated and consumers will get their music on cell phones.
Wireless think tank Strategy Analytics told USA Today that 1 billion cell phones will be sold worldwide this year, and a quarter of those will be the type that can play downloaded music.
It is expected that the number of music phones will grow to 800 million in just the next three years.
Most consumers, USA Today, said, don t realize their new phones have this particular feature or they rarely use it.
Rob Hyatt, executive director of music at wireless carrier Cingular, told the paper the company has launched five new music-gadget phones with several online popular subscription services.
