WASHINGTON, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Swedish glam rock star Ola Salo has apologized for telling a Washington audience he hoped airplanes he saw flying overhead would crash into the White House.
At a party celebrating the opening of Sweden's new U.
S. embassy, the lead singer for the Swedish band The Ark caught sight of some planes preparing to land at a nearby airport and said: In this country, you don't know where those planes are headed. I hope they fly into the White House rather than here, Sweden's Local newspaper reported.
Media producer Steve Skemp told the Washington Post he was flabbergasted by Salo's comments, but more stunned at the reaction of the crowd, because they laughed and clapped.
Swedish Ambassador Gunnar Lund said Salo's quip was completely irresponsible and unacceptable.
Sometimes when I'm onstage, it's my mouth moving and not connected to my brain, Salo said in his apology.
