Big band leader Frank Love is honored

Big band leader Frank Love Jr. of Shelby is the recipient the Cleveland County Arts Council's 2007 Heritage Bridge Award. A trumpet player since 8th grade, Love is a retired textile executive who formerly lived in Mount Holly.

He is the founder of the Frank Love Orchestra and has also been an influence and mentor for generations of musicians. The award will be presented Saturday during the Art of Sound Music Festival in downtown Shelby. Love will be joined by singers with earlier versions of his band.

The Frank Love Orchestra will perform Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Hamilton Hall in Shelby's First National Bank as a part of the Art of Sound.
