My favorite e-mail came from Greg Kirk of Maryland, who presented lengthy and compelling arguments to support overdue induction of The Ventures, a rock guitar band that influenced tons of surf rock bands in the '60s, '70s and beyond: "I agree with your (Hall of Fame) comments. I've been an acquaintance of the Ventures for about 26 years and have been astounded at the lack of recognition. .
.. Looking collectively at commercial success and influence, it's unthinkable .
.. I myself sent information packets and documentation to the directors in New York a couple of times in the late 1980s, after the Ventures became eligible.
I once received a follow-up phone call at work from the late Mr. Ertegun (HOF, Atlantic Records) acknowledging receipt and explaining how difficult the nominating/voting process was. Sounded like politics to me.
