House Of Jazz

Yorkshire-born, London-based duo Hazel Robinson and Pablo Flack met in 1995. He was managing London's trendy Bricklayer's Arms pub and running clubs in the city's East End; she was working for designer Matthew Williamson. Pablo asked Hazel to make sweatbands as giveaways for his clubs.

They then progressed to t-shirts with slogans like "Donatella says More!" which were scooped up by trend-making stores like Colette in Paris and Browns Focus in London. The pair went full-speed into fashion "by accident" three seasons ago after Katie Grand, editor of indie fashion mag Pop, agreed to style a show for them.

Last summer's collection was heavily Seventies, with vests, blouses and A-line skirts. Fall looks include South American-inspired fringed cashmere ponchos, skull necklaces and boots with pom poms; fit-and-flare topstitched coats and corduroy dirndls, meanwhile, keep that Seventies flavor going. The duo's name does not necessarily indicate their musical taste.

"We just kept saying to one another 'that's a jazzy piece!' all the time," says Pablo. "The word just kind of stuck.

" Barneys New York booked Jazz's fall collection. No cover, no minimum.
