Pete Doherty has said his reconciliation with his father last month was emotional and hopes that his recent stay in rehab will keep him off drugs for good. Pete became estranged from his father over his drug addiction three years ago but the two met up again for the first time during Pete s recent six weeks stay at the Clouds clinic in Wiltshire. The Babyshambles frontman told the Sunday Mirror: My dad has welcomed me back into the fold.
I can go back home and actually talk to him. We hadn t spoken for three years. He came in for family therapy at the rehab centre.
It was quite an emotional time. When they initially fell out, Pete s dad, an Army officer, had told his son to come home again when you re clean and now the musician is proud to say he s drug-free: This is the first time I ve been clean for seven weeks in eight years. I m not going to lie and say it s not a struggle.
It is. I have had a bit of trouble with complete abstinence. I ve had the odd Guinness.
But I m quite proud, particularly for my mum and dad. It s been a big change in their life. Pete repeatedly passed drugs tests while at the clinic and he hopes he s beaten his heroin and crack cocaine addiction once and for all: I m quietly confident.
These last two months have been a real turning point.
