That night Green Day led all the way and won by a half length. This time driver Andy Miller kept him coiled in third place before striking between the far turn and the stretch turn the second time around the track and quickly transforming it into a one-horse race. The first division of the Galt was the first of seven stakes held on the year's biggest night of racing at Maywood.

The main event, the $220,000 Windy City Pace for 3-year-olds, was won by Booze Cruzin in 1:51 3/5 , fastest time in the 25-year history of the race. Driven by Sam Widger, Booze Cruzin took advantage of his inside post position to gain an immediate lead and held in all the way in winning by 1 3/4 lengths over Home Bed Advantage.
