Her near-perfect cover of Hendrix s Castles Made of Sand works because it remains faithful to the feel of the original, with Khan s vocal flourishes putting her own stamp on the song. The cover of Prince s Sign O the Times is not as successful. Chaka Kahn had a huge hit back in 1984 with a cover of Prince s I Fell For You, a little-known song that she reinvented into a new-wave/funk/hip-hop masterpiece and ran away with.

This time, she covers a Prince classic and while it s not bad, it suffers from the delivery. The original was a restrained performance brimming with tension. Musically, this version is similar, but Khan s vocals are a little too upbeat for the song.
