A noted pianist and composer, Akagi has played with Miles Davis, Al Di Meola and Stanley Turrentine in his career. He's also recorded as a solo artist, according to his bio. "He's a fantastic player.
He's really inventive," said Doug Davis, chairman of the music department at CSUB. Akagi also teaches music at University of California, Irvine. Davis expects Akagi will tell stories as well as play his own compositions.
The Legends of Jazz series includes three concerts a year and has featured pianist Ahmad Jamal, big band arranger and trombonist Sammy Nestico, trumpeter Gerald Wilson and the band Oregon. Legends of Jazz: Kei Akagi Group When: 8 p.m.
