By Rachel Regalado-Welte Posted: Monday, October 08, 2007 at 4:35 p.m. With the Colorado Rockies on their hottest winning streak in franchise history, fans across the state are all vying for the title of "number one fan.
" But, one local band owns the title for "Deep Purple Pride". "We wanted to write something about them because they are like our heros, and so that is how the song came about and it just flowed because of the Rockies," Jack Daniels said. Daniels is a member of The Steele Daniels Band .
They wrote the song "Deep Purple Pride" in honor of the boys in purple. The perfect mix of baseball and music. The chorus of the song goes, "It starts from mile high, baseballs touch the sky, we are Rocky Mountain High, deep Purple Pride.
" The band wrote the song eight years ago after visiting the Rockies' Spring training camp. Now, that the Rockies are headed for the National League Championship Series, the song is spreading like wildfire. "We were thinking about how much pride these guys have, even years ago, and we just put that together with that deep purple pride," Daniels said.
"Our blood, we bleed purple blood, so that is where that came from." "It was something that did not just happen to come about, it just happened to be there," John Steele, a member of the band said. Steele said he has remained a loyal Rockies fan through all their triumps and struggles, listening to them on the radio every summer.
He and Daniels agreed that their love for the "Blake Street Bombers" was poured out on paper through the lyrics. "We did not even think of the song until last week when they exploded and we were like we got this song lets bring it back up, and the response from fans has been awesome," Daniels said. The Steele Daniels Band plays at the Cystola Bar and Grill in Woodland Park on the weekends.
