Friday Night Lights , the critically acclaimed program about high-school football in Texas, was just moved to the challenging time slot of 9 p.m. Fridays.
This beautiful show, which premieres tonight, deserves better. Much like a documentary, it is filmed with handheld cameras, creating a vivid, realistic picture of the town of Dillon, Tx. and its inhabitants.
This unique cinematic style, combined with the authentic Texan filming locations, makes the viewers feel as if they’ve been transported to Dillon each week. The often-improvised acting is truly phenomenal; each character feels brilliantly real, especially Coach Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler) and his family. The show is able to consistently evoke strong emotions in its viewers, and even if you know absolutely nothing about football - once again, like myself - you will be so invested in the characters that each game will have you literally cheering for the Panthers.
