While fans roared for Styx, they shook the bricks when Def Leppard gave their opening growl -- "Do you wanna get rocked?" From the familiar rock anthem Love Bites to Two Steps Behind to Rock On, Def Leppard walked fans through two and half decades of favourites.
It is amazing how little changes through the years. Phil Collen still performs shirtless, although he did start the set with a stylish velvet jacket. And the band boasts one of the best drummers in any rock arena -- Rick Allen -- and Elliott still has the lungs to scream on key.
Vivian Campbell and Collen still strut their stuff with guitar riffs that have lost none of their raw edge over the decades. And the fans, both young and youngish, sang along to every note. Remarkable, since many were not born during the heyday of big hair and skinny ties.
Not many bands could tour without a recent album project to promote, but Def Leppard and Styx have a vast repertoire of hits to choose from. The raw energy of the concert was evident from the opening note, as the crowd hit their feet. Saskatoon certainly enjoyed a double dose of classic rock -- from the age when concerts weren't lip-synched or over-produced -- just simply a ear-numbing celebration of loud hard rock.
