The brawny lads of the Mid-Atlantic Scottish Athletics will be hurling the caber and more at the Highland Heptathalon. Incidental entertainers, including Looki the Leprachaun and Capt. Morgan the Welsh Pirate and Patrick the Painter will be around the 12-acre site.
Presentations and lectures include Jeanne du Nord on Ancient Celtic Schools and on Dear Old Hogwarts; Crenshaw on the influences of Celtic music on American and church music; and Scott Morrison on Celtic instruments -- the Bodhran. Du Nord performs storytelling on the theme of Bird of Rare Plumage. Sharon Himes will be painting in the Gathering Room, where Gracie Ayers will be signing her novel, "The Weaver's Girl.
" There are Clan Booths, a Celtic Marketplace and a Food Court. Brian Sturgeon with the Liquor Control Board will conduct a single malt Scotch whiskey tasting in The Cork and Bottle daily from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
A tasting of Maryland wines by Al Cop of Woodhall Winery will be in the Wine Tent, located next to the Tempting Tap, which serves up historic and specialty beers (fee and carding apply to wine, whiskey and beers). Festival hours are 11 a.m.
to 5:30 p.m. daily, with a special Saturday evening event, The Ceilidh, from 6:30 to 8 p.
m. Parking is free, as is a shuttle from the riverfront in Snow Hill. Admission is $12 for those over 18; and $3 for ages 2 to 18.
