Quincy Jones was named one of the 2008 National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters in ceremonies this week in New York. Besides Jones, an impresario, conductor, producer, arranger, composer and trumpeter, recipients included the rhythm instrumentalist Candido Camero Q, the composer and pianist Andrew Hill Q, the composer and arranger Tom McIntosh Q and the solo instrumentalist and trumpeter Joe Wilder Q. Each of the honorees received a $25,000 fellowship. Paul Schrader , who first came to notice with his script for 1976 movie "Taxi Driver," will receive a lifetime achievement award at this year s Stockholm International Film Festival. The 61-year-old writer-director is being recognized for his "unique voice, which gives life to sharp, relentless characters in a modern city," said organizers for the 10-day festival, which opens Nov.
15. Previous winners of the Bronze Horse award include Oliver Stone, Roman Polanski, David Lynch, Lauren Bacall, Gena Rowlands and the Swedish director Lasse Hallstrom .
