Stephen Stills "Just Roll Tape: April 26, 1968" Country-Rock: A- Stills was helping produce tracks for an album by his then-girlfriend Judy Collins when he decided to stay a little longer in the studio and record a batch of his own demos. Long believed destroyed, the tape of that April 1968 solo session was unearthed in 2003 and is now available on CD for the first time. What a blast it is to hear the raw, unsweetened versions of Crosby, Stills and Nash gems like "Helplessly Hoping" and "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" as well as previously unheard gems like "All I Know is What You Tell Me" and "Dreaming of Snakes.

" Stills, whom Hendrix once dubbed his favorite guitar slinger, offers fierce acoustic accompaniment on the rollicking blues tracks "Black Queen" and "Bumblebee (Do You Need a Place to Hide?)," which was re-written as "The Love Gangster" on the Manassas CD. If you ever wondered why Neil Young kept Stills around for so long, here's the only answer you'll ever need.
