Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr will pay tribute to their native city when Liverpool, England, becomes European Capital of Culture next year. "I'm very excited about Liverpool being the European Capital of Culture in 2008," McCartney said in a video message Thursday at the launch event. "We have a fantastic series of events, which are sure to get you excited, too.

" The ex-Beatle will headline a June 1 concert for more than 30,000 people at Liverpool Football Club's Anfield stadium. Starr, along with Eurythmics founder Dave Stewart and the Liverpool Symphony Orchestra, will lead the opening ceremony Jan. 12 with Liverpool the Musical , a tribute to the city's musical heritage.

Native Liverpudlian Simon Rattle will conduct concerts with the Berlin Philharmonic and Liverpool Philharmonic, and hundreds of bands from around the world are due for Liverpool Music Week in November. Each year, two cities in European Union nations hold the title of culture capital. Britain last had its turn in 1990, when Glasgow was honored.

Stavanger, Norway, is the other culture capital for 2008. Here's one way to get a film role A 10-year-old boy will get to play an extra in Will Ferrell's new movie after his father bought the role in a cancer-charity auction for $47,100. The money will go to the Cancer for College foundation, run by one of Ferrell's fraternity brothers at the University of Southern California.

The high bidder, a man from Dallas, asked to remain anonymous, but he said his mother died of ovarian cancer a few years ago. Ferrell came up with the idea to auction off the part for his new movie, Step Brothers . The Fonz in bronze Visit Milwaukee, a group that promotes the city as a tourism and convention destination, is leading an effort to raise money for a bronze sculpture of Fonzie, the character played by Henry Winkler on TV's Happy Days , which was set in Milwaukee.

About $45,000 has been raised toward a goal of $85,000 to commission the statue. "It's an honor," Winkler said. "But it is so bizarre to think there should be a statue.

" Winkler, 61, played Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli on the show, which aired from 1974 to 1984. The series also starred Ron Howard, Marion Ross, Tom Bosley and Erin Moran. Dave Fantle, vice president of public relations for the non-profit group, said he expects the statue to be unveiled next year.

Reba -- and friends -- at the top Reba McEntire's Reba Duets has debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's 200 Top Albums, her best first-week showing on the chart. "I am beyond thrilled to have my biggest sales week ever with my 31st album," McEntire said in a statement Wednesday.
