Issue #19.10 :: 10/03/2007 - 10/09/2007 Do You Remember Rock and Roll Listen for yourself: Edison Project album features harmony reminiscent of Beatles and Beach Boys -- an interview with Dave Firmin BY RICH MCCRACKEN II Edison Project Do You Remember Rock and Roll Podcast: To listen, click here AUGUSTA, GA. - As a CD reviewer and podcaster for the Metro Spirit , my main focus has been on music and CD reviews that are nationally recognized or internationally known.
But as of late, my focus has shifted to our local musical talent here in Augusta. There is an abundance of great musical talent in our own hometown. With the recent growth in Augusta and in our downtown area, Augusta has the potential to become a musical hotspot.
There are many, many bands in the CSRA (somewhere around 800), and the Edison Project is one of the many talented groups creating recognition for Augusta's diverse music scene. On the band's new CD Do You Remember Rock and Roll the song You Got It Bad has a unique sound. The vocals have a slight reverb tone at the beginning.
The drums and bass are solid and guitar playing is strong with multi-tracked, layered parts plus some neat sound effects that help round out the song, particularly the ending. The main thing I noticed about this song and others on the Do You Remember Rock and Roll CD is the vocal harmony. The unison and harmony parts are similar to Beatles and Beach Boys harmony structures.
The song Better has a driving sound with more cymbals on the drums. The vocal effects that are similar to echoplex tones really stand out. The bass tone is full and seems flanged in certain parts of the song.
Guitar distortion is crunchy and multi-tracked which fits the song. The vocal harmonies toward the end are similar to Led Zeppelin. Very cool.
