What was the first album you bought? When I finally had allowance money to spend on music, cassettes were still the most popular medium. I had tapes of Boyz II Men, Def Leppard and Weird Al on pretty constant rotation.

Then right around paper-route time, I got involved with record clubs where you get 15 CDs for a penny up front. I’ve been in a music purging phase for the last five years or so. It had to happen after the ridiculous amounts of albums I collected during my teens and early 20s.

Now I listen to those old CDs of my youth, rip three or four mp3s of the tunes I still enjoy, then give the album away. It’s pretty liberating. But to answer the question more directly, the last albums I actually bought in a store were the debuts of Norah Jones and John Mayer about 5 years ago.

I had a feeling those two were going to do incredible things. I downloaded Stevie Wonder’s last album “A Time to Love,” which I think may be his greatest musical collection yet! “Evan Almighty.

” I really enjoyed this one. It shares an innocent humor that I love in movies like “Airplane” and “Big Fish.” Van Halen, 1993, grass seats, Alpine Valley.

So many unique memories from this one, mostly before the concert even started. A biker chick pinched my butt, I watched a guy barf in his 32 oz. beer cup, and I was informed what reefer smells like.

I do remember watching the band through someone’s binoculars and being in awe of Eddie and his 15-minute guitar solo.
