With Saab continuing its sales upswing and its current branding efforts having their intended effects, Jay Spenchian, until recently the general manager of Saab Cars USA, has been shifted to Buick to fill the role of executive director of North America vehicle sales, service and marketing strategy, and revenue management.
In his early days at GM, Spenchian oversaw marketing efforts for Cadillac during its "Break Through" campaign, when Led Zeppelin was wailing "Been a long time. .

." over cruising shots of XLRs and CTSs. Moving to Saab in April of 2005 and heading the brand's "Born from Jets" campaign, Spenchian's efforts have paid dividends in terms of brand awareness and prestige.

With the Buick Enclave evoking all the right responses so far, GM will want to get that car's branding campaign just right as a means to recasting and expanding Buick's brand values with potential customers. Spenchian, the man with the so-far golden marketing instincts, has been given the task.
Spenchian's role at Saab will be filled by former Buick General Manager Steve Shannon.

So the was a gag, but this one isn't. We even have video to prove it, which can be seen after the jump. What you'll see when you click through is a 1:1 scale Saab being remotely controlled by a Nokia phone.

Throttle, brakes and steering are all controlled via the phone through a Bluetooth connection. The application running it also has a built-in kill switch should you get out of range. How thoughtful of them.

Seriously though, this seems like a great idea to bring your car to the front door during a rainstorm, or squeezing into very tight parking spots, but unless you're with national security we doubt many other drivers will share your joy at a remote control car. And God forbid some 11-year-old hacker figures out a way to control your car for you. Yikes.

Fun in the James Bond, gee whiz factor way, but we really don't like the idea of these making it onto public roads.

Well, this one's a surprise. We thought that the radical would be all Rinspeed had on hand at the Geneva Motor Show, but instead, the Swiss tuner has teamed with Saab to create a matching 9-5 BioPower station wagon, as well.

Lowered and painted a striking yellow, the car features fiberglass elements similar to those seen on the eXasis. Rhombus patterns adorn yello fiberglass inserts in place on the grille, headlight surrounds, rear licence plate area, and dashboard. The shape pops up again on the car's seats, which are padded with a "technogel.

" Upsized black five-spoke wheels with metallic outlines fill out the wheel wells quite nicely.

At the time of this writing, no English-language press release was yet available. has posted a basic translation of the German one at Saab's Swedish media site.

If a picture says a thousand words, however, we have a gallery equivalent to 38,000 of them linked below. We'll update this post with the English press materials as soon as they're made available, and of course, our Geneva team will being you live coverage from the show itself when it opens next week

We brought you spy shots of the updated a couple of weeks ago, but a similarly updated Saab 9-3 Convertible has just been caught in the same area and this one's not covered in snow. The new grille inspired by the Aero X is present and we can see clearly now how the new curved hood meets up with it.

The front and rear bumpers are both new, and the door handles for the new 9-3 will reportedly come straight off the Euro-market Cadillac BLS (they're not using them, so why not?), though this mule is still wearing the current car's handles. Let's face it, these are mild face lifts to the 9-3 line of cars, even if the new grilles do manage to spiff them up a bit.

Where's an all-new 9-3, though? For that matter, a lot of Saab fanatics out there want there , jack.

Saab has put the chill to one of its 9-3 Convertibles to celebrate its 60th year in the automobile manufacturing business. The display is located at Sweden's , which itself is made out of pure ice. At first glance, we thought an entire 9-3 Convertible had been dipped into a giant vat of H20 and frozen, but the press release reveals it's actually parked in an ice garage comprised of 60 ice blocks harvested from the nearby Torne River.

The structure weighs an impressive 30 tons and the blue-lit Saab can reportedly be seen from a kilometer away. About 500 people will attend the Saab Ice Experience at the ICEHOTEL, including customers, VIP guests and select dealers, until the whole thing melts away on March 18th.
