Kamchatka yacht Svenja ( ???

- ) has been hijacked by unknown armed people in the waters of Eritrea, Africa. correspondent reports Kamchatka governor press secretary Marina Gordeyeva to say that governor Mikhail Mashkovets personally monitors the situation.
According to Gordeyeva, the information about the yacht capturing was received by the regional administration by email from captain of the Port Said ship that passed Svenja on Oct 22.

Captain of the yacht Yevgeny Panchenko (regional administration officer REGNUM) reported on the hijacking of the yacht by unknown persons to the captain on the phone. Panchenko said that the yacht was at anchorage. He said that because of a storm and that they ran out of fuel, the crew of two found shelter in a nearby village.

There the yacht was hijacked by the unknown armed people who seized the crew?s passports and nautical charts. The governor who was promptly informed of the situation took all measures to find out the fate of the Kamchatka residents, Gordeyeva said.


A letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and a telegram to the Ambassador of Russia to Eritrea have been sent. The officials are informed of the situation, asked to conform its reliability, inform of the actual location of the yacht, and, if necessary, render help to the crew, Gordeyeva informed.
Kamchatka yacht club purchased the Svenja yacht this fall in Turkey.

It was passing from the Turkish shores to the Kamchatka peninsular.
