U2 played a mini-set for fans at the Cannes Film Festival in order to promote their new film, U2 3D.

The Irish rock band apparently played two songs on the steps at the entrance to the Grand Theatre Lumiere.

The audience were also treated to a 55-minute preview of the film, which uses three-dimensional camera technology.

It follows the band on the South American leg of their Vertigo Tour and is set to be released internationally for screening from around 1000 3D equipped cameras.
