Our colleagues over at have just shown us a bevy of new pics revealing more angles of the Buick Riviera Concept set to debut soon at the Shanghai Auto Show. As we reported earlier, the Buick Riviera Concept was penned at GM's Pan Asia Technical Center, which makes the concept a coming out of sorts for that region's development team. The car is a proper coupe that reportedly shows off Buick's future design DNA, and while it's being referred to as a "global" concept, we can't say for sure whether or not the styling elements will make their way around the world to our own North American market.
The prospects, however, seem good, as the Riviera Concept is set to go on an international tour of the auto show circuit after the Shanghai show comes to a close. So we leave the judgment up to you readers, is this the styling direction in which the Buick brand should head?

In his early days at GM, Spenchian oversaw marketing efforts for Cadillac during its "Break Through" campaign, when Led Zeppelin was wailing "Been a long time. . .
" over cruising shots of XLRs and CTSs. Moving to Saab in April of 2005 and heading the brand's "Born from Jets" campaign, Spenchian's efforts have paid dividends in terms of brand awareness and prestige. With the Buick Enclave evoking all the right responses so far, GM will want to get that car's branding campaign just right as a means to recasting and expanding Buick's brand values with potential customers.
Spenchian, the man with the so-far golden marketing instincts, has been given the task.
Spenchian's role at Saab will be filled by former Buick General Manager Steve Shannon.

By now, many people are of the opinion that the best Buicks in the world are sold in China.
The new Zeta-based, rear-wheel drive just introduced for the Chinese market would do wonders for the brand in North America, while the front-wheel drive wears a much classier design than . According to the folks at Winding Road, who spent some time with the GM China crew at the Shanghai Auto Show, a hybrid version of the LaCrosse is also on its way to Chinese customers. The hybrid LaCrosse will likely use the Belt-Alternator Starter system used by GM's mild hybrids in the U.
S. While not as frugal with the fuel as a full-on hybrid, the BAS system is less complex and less expensive. We don't expect the LaCrosse sold in North America, or any Buick sold in North America for that matter, to feature a hybrid drivetrain anytime soon.

At first we thought it had to be a mistake. General Motors is already paying customers to take the 2008 Buick Enclave off their hands? It's not even on dealer lots yet, but reports Buick is offering $1,000 "Conquest Bonus Cash" and 4.
9% financing available on the $32k+ CUV.
Though the "Conquest Cash" is intended to draw non-GM-driving customers away from the competition, no matter the name, rebates on brand new vehicles are obvious admissions of overpricing that only enforce car shoppers' addiction to cash-back offers. If the Enclave performs as well and is as reliable as it is gorgeous, it shouldn't need any incentives.
On the other hand, a drop-dead body and cash back could be irresistable to all but the most diehard import buyer.

has the early word on Buick's Shanghai Motor Show concept, and it's got another familiar name attached to it: Riviera. Better still, it's a coupe -- no Dodge Charger-style door growth here.
The Riviera is being called a "global" concept that showcases Buick's future design DNA. Penned at GM's Pan Asia Technical Center, the Shanghai show is just the first venue at which it'll be shown. According to AB Chinese's report, it will travel to other international auto shows afterward.
Hopefully that schedule will include next year's North American exhibitions, where there will likely be no shortage of people interested in seeing the Riviera nameplate on a modern Buick coupe, concept or otherwise.
The Riviera features a traditional coupe profile with short front and rear overhangs and a tall nose that we sure meets pedestrian safety requirements in a number of markets. Not traditional, however, are the car's oversized gullwing doors, which allow for wide entrance into the Riviera's apparent 2+2 interior layout.
We should have a lot more on this car next week as the Shanghai show gets rolling.
We're left scratching our heads as to why the US division insists on using silly names like LaCrosse and Lucerne for its cars, while China manages to see the value in leveraging the traditional American monikers with some history behind them, like Regal, Park Ave, and now Riviera.
