Posted May 18, 2007 -- Chicago's finest, rapper/actor Common is adding to his acting resume. The hip-hop star plays an assassin in Universal Pictures' new film, Wanted, starring Morgan Freeman, James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie, reports MTV.com.
The story centers on a white-collar worker who discovers he is the son of the most evil supervillain on Earth. When his father is assassinated, he inherits the dead man's powers and begins life among the other supervillains (Freeman, Jolie and Common) who secretly control the planet. Common plays Gunsmith, an assassin who is enlisted to help train and transform McAvoy's character into the world's most feared and powerful hit man.
Common is also in negotiations to join Keanu Reeves and Forest Whitaker in the drama The Night Watchman for Fox Searchlight. When the deal is done, he'll play Coates, a heroin dealer from Belize who suits up as undercover police officer. The rapper made his big-screen debut this year alongside Alicia Keys in Smokin' Aces.
Look for Comon next in American Gangster, starring Denzel Washington.
The Chi-town native will release his next CD, Finding Forever, on July 10. It features production by Kanye West, will.
i.am and the late producer James "J. Dilla" Yancey.
Guest spots include Bilal, Dwele and D'Angelo.
