Festival was its inaugural Commission Concert, featuring a beguiling new work by pianist Jex Saarelaht.
This year, the commission was awarded to another gifted jazz trio and strings. Yasaka Shomyo is Hopkins' musical response to an extended visit to Japan, where he was entranced by the Buddhist chants he heard in Kyoto's Yasaka Shrine.
