The scream and police activity were the result of two men fighting in the balcony of Symphony Hall just as conductor kicked off this season of the renowned orchestra. The fight, caught on camera by several local television stations, showed what appeared to be several females surrounding a man who was wildly swinging. One man rsquo;s shirt was ripped off of him.

Boston police spokesman David Estrada said two men were escorted from the building, though no charges were filed. He said both were allowed to file criminal complaints on each other. No injuries were reported.

The fight happened about 7 p.m., just as Lockhart was introducing a salute to music from classic film.

After the first scream, there was a stir in the crowd, but the caterwaul was followed by a second, much louder scream that nearly stopped the show.

Lockhart raised his hand as if to silence the music, while ushers on the first floor raced to the balcony to lend aid. However, the music never completely stopped, with a slight hum continuing until the men were cleared and Lockhard struck up the band again.
