Adrienne, Breaking the Racial Barrier in Pop Music Explained sources close to the rising star, “The ‘wait and see’ posture is no more because Magic Tricks has all the elements of a mega pop hit, which is what it is. This feat is as spectacular as it is historic, because, psychologically, it paves the way without reservations for other Chinese-Americans or minorities who for so long have felt disenfranchised. They can now get rid of any self-doubt—in themselves and their heritage.
Her success is an object lesson that hard work does pay dividends.”
Adrienne graduated from UCLA with a double major—sociology and communications, with an acting minor—at the age of 21. She is 24 now.
She speaks Chinese—Cantonese and Mandarin—as well as English, of course. What does her family have to say about their pop star daughter?
“They’re actually very supportive,” said Adrienne.
“…They wanted me to finish my education, which I did… They let me then sign the contract to be a professional singer, to be a recording artist. Ever sense then, they’ve been so supportive.”
Adrienne signed with Global Village Records in the
S. which is distributed by Warner Music Group—the company has put up billboards on the Sunset Strip (seen by an estimated 300,000 people every day) and on Time Square (seen by millions every day). The rising star has performed at some large gay venues and felt the audience was very supportive.
She is very much looking forward to more gigs for her gay fans. “They were showing a lot of love for me, so I’m happy.”
“I probably dance like eight hours a day, probably four times a week because I really love dancing,” she explained.
In fact, she dances all day for weeks at a time when preparing for her concerts. “Even when I’m busy, I do take a lot of time out to do my dance lessons and stuff because I do love dancing a lot and I love performing for the audience with my dance moves and everything.”
As her single Magic Tricks continues to live on the pop charts, sources explained that “Adrienne is the new international spokes model for Vigoss Jeans, the title sponsor for the 2006 America’s Top Model and manufacturer of Seven for Mankind.
She is poised to begin an international tour to promote her music.”
If that’s not enough, Adrienne has just completed her own reality series, Life of a Pop Star. She walked the red carpet at the 2006 Grammy Awards as well, and was featured on the Brit’s Awards with Kanye West.
One person close to the artist stated, “The mantle of being a pioneer and leader of the Asian Pop invasion has been thrust upon Adrienne by circumstances, but she is up to the task. Often times, the home turf proves more resilient than one would imagine. Adrienne is leaving nothing to chance,” they concluded, explaining that she was shooting two music videos in her home town,
I asked Adrienne if she has any Asian role models who have crossed over as international sensations in any area of entertainment.
I loved meeting Adrienne and her CD is definitely in my current rotation! For more about the artist, visit her .
