It's been a pretty good year for Gary Lightbody. Snow Patrol are currently engaged on a sell-out US tour, having duetted with Martha Wainwright on the highly successful 'Set The Fire To The Third Bar' in 2006, while in the same year 'Chasing Cars' became one of the band's most successful compositions to date, gaining them international acclaim and a fan base that a few years back they only could have dreamed of.
However, the Scottish group are not resting on their laurels, and rather are forging steadily ahead.
Latest release 'Signal Fire' is in use on the trailer for the Spider-Man 3 soundtrack and in the film itself. A low-key beginning soon develops into a truly filmic song that has great potential to do well for the band in the charts, thanks to Lightbody's almost desperate vocal and the catchy, sub-hopeful tone of the chorus.
"You are my signal fire," sighs out Lightbody as the guitars come crashing in, voice rising and trembling over the throbbing of the rest of his band.
"There you are/Standing right in front of me/Hold me close/Cos I need you to guide me to safety/...
No, I won't wait for ever," he concludes sadly, perhaps realising that he has been waiting too long.
