The Shortlist Music Prize has its list of best under-represented albums for the past year ready.
Bands making this year's final ballot include Band of Horses, Beirut, Bonnie Prince Billy, Cat Power, Girl Talk, Hot Chip, Joanna Newsom, Regina Spektor, Spank Rock and Tom Waits. The ten finalists were chosen by a panel of musicians who narrowed a field of 61 nominees ( ) down to a list of finalists.
The prize, which was revived this year by founder Greg Spots after taking a year off ( ), looks to honor the achievements of underground musicians who are usually overlooked by the mainstream. To be eligible to receive the Shortlist, bands can sell no more than 500 thousand copies of their nominated album.
