The San Francisco Opera Guild will offer its first Arts Conservatory this summer. The three-week performing arts immersion program will train students aged ten to fifteen in opera, theater, musical theater, dance and components relating to each discipline.
Classes, to be taught by industry professionals, will include acting, singing, dance (ballet, modern, and period), music theory and history, theater history, improvisation, speech and diction, technical theater, composition and writing, and auditioning.
There will also be master classes with guest artists. Running June 18-July 7, classes and rehearsals will take place at the War Memorial Opera House and neighboring facilities. The program concludes on July 7 with the performance of an original operatic/music theater work created and rehearsed by the students.
Interviews and auditions for the program (which costs $675) are currently being scheduled. Prior musical/theater training is not necessary. Some financial aid is available.
