The Department of Music presents Notre Dame Jazz Band Spring Concert at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center

Notre Dame has long promoted jazz at the university level through its Collegiate Jazz Festival. Begun in 1959 it is the oldest jazz festival for college musicians in the nation. The Notre Dame Jazz Band has been the host of this competition since the beginning.

From smooth notes that pull at the soul to beats that stir your feet, the Notre Dame Jazz Band is sure to entertain. Joining the Notre Dame Jazz Band for this concert is legendary jazz musician Jeff Clayton. Mr.

Clayton is the embodiment of jazz having played with Count Basie, Stevie Wonder, and the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. He recently appeared on campus as one of the judges for the 2006 Collegiate Jazz Festival. The concert, entitled These Are My Friends , will feature music of Jeff Clayton's personal friends: Quincy Jones, Henry Mancini, Johnny Mandel, Thad Jones, Sammy Nestico, Frank Wess, and his brother John Clayton.

Billy Sticks Nicks, former Motown drummer with Junior Walker and the All Stars, will also make a special appearance with the Notre Dame Jazz Band. Friday, April 27, 2007, at 8:00 pm
The dynamic Notre Dame Symphony Orchestra presents an evening of astrological delight as they present music by Gustav Holst.
