[img] N Awlins: Check out these amazing photos from the just wrapped-up Jazz Fest in New Orleans, which I plan to attend next year for the very first time. Who s in? Hidden Track has the hot pics here.

Photos courtesy of Danfun. Great fargin photos, Dan! This is what it s like in the Dream Factory: For some old school Prince goodness, head over to Gonzo s place for a trip to The Dream Factory.

Ain t that a bitch: Need more of a Prince fix? Head over to Horse Latitudes for a cool remix of Bob George . [.

[img] Fresh news out of the purple camp today, as Prince announced at a press conference that he will be setting up shop in London later this summer for 21 dates.

These are the announced gigs, he s also hinted at a healthy smattering of his infamous club aftershows. All I have to say about this is BUGGER! BUGGER !

BUGGER! You Brits are in for something special. He also said he d be mixing up the set list nightly, and even inviting Amy Winehouse out to perform with him.

Apparently, he s quite taken by the sexy soulful [...

[img] As a married pops of two living in the sticks outside of Phoenix, my days of spending five out of every seven nights bar-hopping and band-watching have come to an end. So my knowledge of the local music scene is pretty much limited to the local press and the occasional night out. Today, a columnist for the Phoenix New Times posted about a cool local band on his blog.

The title of his piece is Annals of Bad Band Names , and he has a valid point in this case: the band s name is What Laura Says [...

[img] Soel is Pascal Ohs, a Paris born and bred trumpeter and composer who s a member of popular European group St. Germain. Memento is his first solo effort, where he pays homage to the American R B, classic soul and jazz that he digs so immensely.

What he have in this tune is a very obvious tribute to the Barry Whites and Isaac Hayeses of the world. Soel, you rascal! Soel: My Singing Soul (mp3) Listen here: You can preview all the tracks on his official [.

[img] Couple of cool items The Mix Up: The new Beastie Boys album, The Mix Up, should be available to the masses in June, according to a recent interview between Mike D.

and NME.com. The album is said to harken back to the sound of Paul s Boutique (1989) and Check Your Head (1992), which I find to be great news ( B-Boy Bouillabaisse , anyone?

). Could be that I m just nostalgic for that era in hip-hop, being an increasingly alienated older fart, who knows I love cool song names, and this track listing has em Be For My [..

[img] Regardless of your general palate for the Grateful Dead, it s pretty hard to listen to this version of the Bob Dylan-penned Simple Twist of Fate and not be moved. Whether it s Garcia s pleading and perfect vocal, or his crisp and cascading guitar solos, this performance is simply gorgeous.

The Jerry Garcia Band was Jerry s opportunity to let loose and play some of his favorite music outside of the Dead scene , from Dylan to Motown to gospel. And in my opinion, it got no better than this Jerry Garcia Band - Simple Twist of Fate (mp3) [..

We made it until about 9:30, partly into Ratdog’s set. Unfortunately, Mr. Migraine decided to make an appearance and made my wife’s later evening an unpleasant one.

But the [...

[img] photo courtesy of Alan Hess: http://www.shotlivephoto.com/ Headlining the McDowell Mountain Music Festival tomorrow night is Bob Weir and his band Ratdog.

The band originally formed as a side project for Bob and his friend Rob Wasserman. They picked up former Primus drummer Jay Lane and guitar / harmonica player Matthew Kelly and hit the road in 1995. For those that don t know, Bob Weir was the rhythm guitar player and founding member of the Grateful Dead (did I need to mention that?

). Ratdog s songbook has consisted primarily of Dead tunes, Weir solo [..

[img] I feel obligated to steer you to iTunes for the new White Stripes tune Icky Thump .

Jack and Meg, representin da Ick! This is true Ickmusic. Zack has a sweet post on his blog, Gonzo s Music-o-Rama .

It s Prince s Camille album, a collection of songs he sings as that helium-voiced horn-dog (you know, like Housequake Prince). Go check out Aikin s cool music blog, Licorice Pizza , where he discusses the new Wilburys reissues and Robert Johnson, among a lot more. Stereogum recently posted a cool tune by ex-Mott [.

[img] Now we re getting to the really fun part.

I m excited as hell to say that I m gonna see the Neville Brothers on Friday! As I mentioned in another post, I saw them at a cool festival in May 1996 called Laguna Seca Daze at the Laguna Seca Race track in Monterey, California (a festival that also included a Being There -era Wilco). I remember a really amazing moment as they were playing a version of the Dead s Fire on the Mountain as the sun was setting (nope, not Fire on the Bayou ).

There were rolling green hills [...

[img] Next up on the big stage Friday: Vermont band Grace Potter the Nocturnals. Grace leads the band with her killer soulful voice and a Hammond B3. The Nocturnals are made up of Scott Tournet (guitar), Matthew Burr (drums), and Bryan Dondero (bass).

The fine folks over at Hidden Track swear by her, and they are true aficionados of today s jam scene, so I m looking forward to the live GP the Nocturnals experience. Judging by a recent live show I checked out on Archive, it should be good. So this summer will see their third [.

[img] Third to take the stage at this Friday s McDowell Mountain Music Festival is San Francisco jam band Tea Leaf Green.

I was trying to get a chat lined up with the guys prior to the festival, but it looks doubtful considering they re busy on the road, and I waited until only a week before the festival to get in touch with them. But look for something in the near future. Anyhoo, the boys in Tea Leaf Green are made up of keyboardist/vocalist/ and main songwriter Trevor Garrod, guitarist/vocalist Josh Clark, bass man Ben Chambers, and drummer [.

[img] After hearing this terrific recording of Lucinda Williams March 28th show in Harrisburg, PA, it s pretty apparent I better buy tickets to see her live on May 4th at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix.

She s on the road in support of her latest album, West, out on Lost Highway Records. Lucinda s dynamic, raw, and very genuine presence is alive and well in this show. On the last four tracks, she s joined by Alejandro Escovedo.

The masses can have their Faith Hills, their Carrie Underwears Underwoods and Martina McBrides. Beneath the surface, we have Lucinda. And God, [.

[img] Howzabout a little Garage a Trois to end the weekend / kick off the week?

What we have is a side project of Charlie Hunter on his 8-string guitar, Galactic s Stanton Moore on drums, and Skerik on sax. On this 2003 release, Emphasizer, they had Mike Dillon help out on percussion and vibraphone. Laid back acid jazz/funk comin your way.
