Something about the languid days of summer seems to have an inordinately randy effect on gays, who just can’t seem to get their groove on in enough hotspots around the globe. With every corner of the world abuzz with festive gay celebrations this summer, here’s a look at five of the hottest gay happenings waiting to be enjoyed in the season ahead. One Mighty Weekend at the Walt Disney World Resort Orlando is the closest thing that some will have to a magical weekend all year long.
This year the pre-event for One Mighty Party at Disney's-MGM Studios will feature the comedic stylings of "D-List" diva Kathy Griffin.as well as the One Mighty Weekend premier of DJ/Remixer Eddie Baez and other parties lorded over by DJ Roland Belmares and DJ Phil B. Just to add a little more fairy dust to this year’s One Mighty Weekend event, the five-time Grammy-winning Queen of Disco, Donna Summer, will be belting out her big gay hits like “MacArthur Park” and “Love To Love You Baby” on the main stage.
Best of all, this weekend long party will benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation adding new meaning to the phrase “partying with a purpose”. Imagine a swirling mass of gay Europe gathered in one central location and you have the idea behind Europride.
Held this year in the tolerant and progressive environment of Madrid, Europride 2007 will offer the once annual opportunity to commingle with the sexiest lads and lasses from not only every European destination, but from the world at large.
Non-stop parties, mega DJ’s , a swarm of culture and a collective desire by attendees to celebrate gay life in a big way, make Europride one of summer 2007’s hottest tickets. Provincetown goes to camp when David Flower brings his notorious ‘Flower Power’ to the gay mecca every Independence Day Weekend. With events like the grand outdoor party that is the Pier Dance where DJ Tony Moran will be spinning on July 1, the massive Late Night Boat Party where 1,100 party hungry gays will convene to worship on the dancefloor of DJ Abel on July 3, and a Sunset Boat Cruise on the 4th of July, David Flower’s take on Summer Camp beats the hell out of any camp I’ve ever experienced.
This year, in addition to traditional Summer Camp events, PTown’s premiere Independence Day celebration, will also include three new intimate dance parties with big room DJs David Knapp, Brett Henrichsen and Mike Cruz. Now everybody… PRANCE!
To experience a slice of Europe without ever leaving North America, Montreal is where it’s at.
So if you can’t make it to Europride this year, why not give Divers/Cite a whirl? The annual Divers/Cité festival includes three events: a week-long cultural festival, the Community Day and the GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered) Pride Parade. Offering more than a parade Divers/Cité is a full on summer cultural festival attended by more than a million people, and highlighted by the Pride Ball, which showcases both internationally renowned DJs and some of the best talent on Montreal’s homegrown house music scene.
C’est tres bon!
A major European gay clubbing festival, the Loveball 2007 is expected to draw over 30,000 attendees from all over Europe as well as from the United States, Australia, South America, Israel and Turkey. A week of music, sport, cinema, art, fashion and other forms of leisure, this fourth edition of the Loveball is expected to benefit greatly from being held in gay friendly Barcelona, considered by many to be the Mediterranean’s gay capital.
This year’s Loveball will also bring lesbians a complete leisure week this year with a schedule of lesbian specific cultural day activities and a special night scheduled with five astonishing parties which promise to give the ladies the type of fun they’ve been asking for a long time.
