Only a year after dropping his debut CD Listennn: The Album Terror Squad rep DJ Khaled is back with a brand new collection of joints entitled We The Best. The self-proclaimed Beat Novacaine recently caught up with SOHH to talk about his new album and why he's the best DJ out. Set for a June 12 release date, We The Best is jam packed with an all-star line-up of guest appearances including Lil' Wayne, Young Jeezy, T.I., Akon, Juelz Santana, Trick Daddy, Fat Joe, The Game, Rick Ross and Jadakiss, among others. Khaled explained to SOHH how he was able to get some of hip-hop's most elite to be apart of his projects.
Real recognizes real, said the Miami-based DJ. A lot of these artists I've had relationships with throughout my career and vice versa. It's just about brothers grinding and coming together for a common cause because I'm all about unity.
Khaled also managed to unify a few of the game's top notch producers for the album as well including The Runners, Cool Dre and . Though the list may seem diverse, Khaled feels that the differences in the producers' respective styles help to contribute to an overall strong album. I felt like I wanted different types of sounds but it all leads to one sound.
When you're working on an album, you have to please every listener, every type of ear and that's what we did. Khaled has his eyes set on more than just the duties of your average DJ. With power moves in sight which include lending his A R skills to several projects as well as putting out artists of his own, the Terror Squadian is ready to make his name ring bells in the industry.
I'm here and I ain't going nowhere. Big records, big music, I'm trying to be one of the biggest executives in the game, Khaled proclaimed. With the energy I bring to the game, I'm breaking the cycles and kicking in the door and now people have to accept me.
When asked how he stays relevant he confidently replied, I stay relevant by making good music. Sales have been going down with downloading, bootlegging and all of that. You can't stop that.
You just have to get smarter with your business and stay relevant because relevance is what feeds you. I'm relevant. And if not the best, I'm definitely one of the best DJ's out there.
