DALLAS The reports that KZPS (92.5 FM) has undergone a radical switch in its approach to commercials, with the substitution of a more conversational "integration" of product touts rather than the usual 12 to 16 minutes worth of 30- or 60-second commercials.
It's part of an experiment by Clear Channel which is trying to compete with Internet and satellite radio.
Advertisers will sponsor an hour during which the DJ will talk up the product conversationally, a la "Today, I shaved with a Bic shaver."
KZPS is also switching from classic rock to a Texas-inflected rock-country hybrid, with everyone from Lynyrd Skynyrd to Bob Dylan to Johnny Cash to Drive-By Truckers.

So far the only radio stations I listen to are KERA and KHYI.
...
and occasionally that High School station that plays Little River Band. Been listening to 92.5 over the interweb.
..more Southern Rock, some 97s, lots of Waylon.
...
not bad. 1 day, 22 hours ago ( | )
I don't care for the change; KZPS was fine the way it was..
..sort of like the old Q102 of my high school days.
I don't like clear channel forcing this on us...
.I do like Texas music, but I listen to KHYI for that, or my C collection. 1 day, 18 hours ago ( | )
Some say change is good.
..but I'm not so sure about this one.
Here's a point- Are we just getting to old to enjoy classic rock music the way it was played way back when - by the orginial artist? So then, you think you should compromise and play a little of all??
Sound like you want to have your choice of cake mix choice in icing eating it all the way to the bank! We will have to hear a little bit more over the new few days. Sure hope they don't change the format of the morning show.
.. Bo Jim Kelly Jack are a life saver's in the mornings!
The morning's are fine the way they are---just don't change that too! What about the Lunch Box/Noon show? What is going to happen to that?
In the past, I have turned to other radio stations, The Ticket, Bone, (the ZOO yea..bring that back) who play classic rock but have always gone back to KZPS 92.
5, THE Classic Rock Station.
Guess the bottom line is money. How many stations do they own?
How much more will commerical ads cost now than they did before? How much more will it cost a club owner or venue to come out an do a broadcast from their place? Still sound like money all the way to the bank.

Please no country on kzps. Oil and vinegar do not mix.
If it is not broke don't fix it. If it is broke I did not know 'til April 23,07 @ 6:00 a.m.
when my alarm went off. It was awful I thought Bo Jim were playing a joke that I was missing out on. Pluck chickens not guitars.
As bad as this change is at least there are not gays and goofy asses as D.J.'s.
Good wishes to the crew at KZPS. I too will be finding another #1 preset on my dial. I hate the format.
I what my rock back and I want my morning show back. Bring back Bo and Jim. The experiment failed miserably.

I have not listen to FM/AM radio in two years. however, it does not sound like I am missing anything. 1 day, 3 hours ago ( | )
I'm not happy.
I love hearing Bo Jim in the mornings on the way into work. Then when I get to work, I have the radio on 92.5 for classic rock.
So I get in the car yesterday and hear country music. Now after researching, I find that everything has changed. Bummer.
You know, a person can be Texan without liking country music. Was not real happy when I heard about the format change. Am a 60WM who grew up and still loves rock, I can remember when Classic Rock was Rock.
But I have listened to KZPS the last few days; it is not so bad. When I need a real Classic Rock fix, I can always listen to my Sirius Radio in the car, and XM on DirecTV. Glad Bo and Jim are still around, RedBeard, John Dillon.
Long live the ZOO. 1 day, 2 hours ago ( | )
i have loved classic rock since i remember my mom jamming out to led zeppelin when i was like 5 and have been a loyal kzps fan since. LOYAL!
even after my friends continued to bash it. however, before this country rock change, they had gone through other changes. i used to hear CSNY, the beatles, America, Elton John, etc.
on a regular basis. they are no longer. about a month ago, i heard a caller say, cindy, i want u to play some beatles, u guys never play them anymore.
she had answered back that management took away the beatles but she was able to secretly hold some back. What the f%$#?!
?! management of a classic rock station taking away the beatles!
!! i dont like to fight, but i wanted to punch them.
now this ?..
. i turned on the radio yesterday all excited about bo and jim and i heard that country song, you don't have to call me darlin'..
.darlin'..
.u never even call me by my name
A terrifying flashback of college frat boys singing that song, wearing kakhis and pastel polos, was in my head for 30 seconds and i wanted to puke. i knew.
..the true classic rock station of dallas, tx.
..was no longer.
bo, jim, kelly, red beard, john, cindy, i love u guys...
good luck to you, nothing is your fault. i'd refuse to think so anyways. peace out kzps, the bone has officially taken your place on the 1 button 1 day, 1 hour ago ( | )
I like how hardly anyone is commenting about Clear Channel, or the change in the format of the commercials.
In any case, ever since I tuned into 97.1 and got treated to The Kinks - Sunny Afternoon, I realized that radio offered nothing to me that I couldn't get on the internet and listen to on burned CDs or my ipod. 22 hours, 45 minutes ago ( | )
I have followed Bo Jim since they moved to Dallas, one station to the other, simply because I enjoy listening to them every morning on my way to work.
I am an avid letter and email writer, ask anyone who knows me. I deluged the stations that canned them with letter and emails each time. I like classic rock, 70's and 80's.
If I want to listen to country I can push a different button on the radio, if I want to hear that dork on the Mesquite radio station that talks NASALLY, I have a button for that also. If I get too tense, I have a button for classical music, 101.1FM.
I also have a CD player if something is not readily available. I am very coordinated and can select any channel I want. I can arrange to hear any music I wish to hear but I DO NOT WISH TO HEAR my music intermingled.
I am a 62 year old WF, and maybe I confuse easily but I know what I want when I want it, and this conflab isn't what I want to hear. Give me a choice to hear what I want to hear when I want to hear it and for how long. As I have learned though, stations will do as they please and the listeners will listen to what the stations choose or they will have to eventually go elsewhere.
Someone out there will listen to this mixture of music and think that it is just the greatest thing they have ever heard. But it won't be me. 22 hours, 24 minutes ago ( | )
The format seems to be pretty popular here in our office.
We have both FM and Online listeners. In all truth, we'd been listening to electric blues radio online recently, so the switch seems to be positive here. Thanks to the sponsors of KZPS!

I am so ticked off! When I first moved to the metroplex Bo Jim were on Q102 which I loved! Then I followed them around the dial have faithfully listened to KZPS for years.
Luckily I read the news item in the Dallas Morning News yesterday so I wasn't totally shocked by what I heard but after listening for quite awhile no Bo Jim making rude comments, etc. no who's in your box at lunch - I changed the dial to Jack. When I can hear Bo Jim having real conversations again, then I'll go back - but until then - Lonestar92.
5 - you've lost another listener. 20 hours, 43 minutes ago ( | )
You need to cut way back on the country. I'm afraid I'm going to have to put another station at number one on my preset.
Might even have to go to talk radio!!!
20 hours, 41 minutes ago ( | )
I would be all for fewer commercials, but radio stations exist for advertising income. This one like most is owned by a giant media corporation with stockholders. Nowadays most local programming is decided in an office far away by a bunch of old guys guys wearing brown suits and ties.
My suggestion, burn your own CDs and support LIVE local classic rock roll music. 18 hours, 35 minutes ago ( | )
I like it. But not at the expense of Classic Rock.
KZPS was sucking pretty bad before the Bone first aired. They shaped up pretty well after that. My only beef with KZPS was playing the same songs by great artists (e.
g. - hey joe, all along the watchtower, purple haze are NOT the best Hendrix songs out there..
.(IMHO)). That and the whole Lost Classic thing.
Who lost them? We didn't..
. Anyway, glad Bo Jim and the rest of the crew isn't gone. It will be interesting to see what happens.
BTW, anyone ever listened to KPIG out of California? They play(ed?) more Texas music than just about anyone.
They have a very similar format: mix of rock, country, Texas music, Americana, etc. Check them out at . Finally, I think the internet is the only place to find something like KZEW and FM102 (before the Q) used to be.
.. 18 hours, 33 minutes ago ( | )
I agree KZPS was a little repetitive sometimes, and didn't delve into the deeper album cuts as much as I would like.
But as for the new format, my point is I don't go to a steakhouse expecting great seafood and vice-versa. I seek out a place that does one or the other extremely well. Trying to cater to country and classic rock audiences can only lead to an overall mediocre experience.

40-something white guy - I listen to The Ticket all week, but ZPS on the weekends. It's great listening while doing chores. Like the block parties and doubleshots.
So the format is Outlaw Country, Classic Rock and Alternative Country, -Allman Brothers, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Steve Earle,Drive-By Truckers, Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan and Old 97's? Not really sure how Alt Country fits in there. The others are built on a basic blues chords and backbone but Alt Country is built on pop garbage.
I'll give it a listen. If they're going to have SRV in high rotation, then I'll definitely stick. I do wish them the best of luck.
Give us a reason to listen to the radio. 18 hours, 1 minute ago ( | )
I gave my first listen last night from about 10pm-11pm. Here is a list of songs that I heard.
No joke. All in all, pretty enjoyable for Dallas radio. I am a Ticket fan during the week and also subscribe to XM, so my radio listening is slim.
But after last night, I might wonder by 92.5 more often. 4 hours, 35 minutes ago ( | )
I have XM radio in my car and listen mostly when I travel but listen to KZPS when I'm home and when I'm on the internet.
They have some of the best radio personalities in the business. I chose KZPS over XM just like I chose KZPS over CD's. Your current genre of music is confusing and like most others, I change the station.
Trying to compete with satelite and Internet radio may be the end of KZPS. Quit trying to be something you are not and bring back the best classic rock station in the Metroplex.
It's nice to see pets treated just like members of the family. A good warning though -- chi..
