Green Day With Three New Albums? | News @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com

The post reads: "Billie, Mike and Tre are back from summer vacations working hard on new material for the next Green Day album. Stay tuned for more news next week."
As previously reported by NME.

com in June, the band began working on dozens of ideas and demos for the new project, and have been calling the album "an event".
Billie Joe Armstrong told MTV: "At this point, to put a record out with like 12 songs on it and turn it in sounds a bit boring for us. So we want to definitely make something that is well thought out and (that) all of our blood is put into.

"
Quality over quantity, but Green Day have always been quality (I don't actually like them).

I like their music, because is fun and energetic. I've played heavy metal before, it's so dark and depression and annoying. I'd rather sing then scream and I'd rather play 'American Idiot' then play a two chord metal song in Drop D.

I love almost all music from Led to Soundgarden to even Coldplay (some songs). American Idoit was a well developed album that really set new standers for green day. Compared to so much crap people call music it was good.

If you wanna here garbage sell outs in it for the money listen to the lost prophets new cd and then there old ones NOW THAT IS HORRIBLE! Either way they are great songwriters and deserve a little compassion. Hopefully they don't rush it and just put out a quality album(s).

The only thing I hope for their next album(s), is that they will stay away from trying to be political. I mean seriously! At first they try to be the most immature band ever, and then they want to express their political views?

I would actually regain an ounce of respect for this band if they released a 3-disc set for the price of a single album.
Even if the music continues down the same bland pop-rock path they've been traveling for the last couple of albums.

Since we're on a guitar website, I guess it would only be appropriate for me to say that I really started playing guitar in the first place because of a certain group of bands, Green Day being one of them. By no means am I saying that the stuff that Green Day puts out as intricate as say Master of Puppets, but it's so much more fun to play when you're still learning. The music scene seems to be leaning toward the side of Punk music being dead, which may be true in some way, because most of the big punks names in music aren't really around anymore, and some, like Green Day, seem to still be lingering.

We've sort of moved into a much different music scene since when Dookie came out. I for one remember a time in music history where the really popular bands didn't even write their own music, whereas now, you can't do anything without some degree of original material. Say what you want about Green Day's lyrics writing ability, which in the 90's more often then not revolved around masturbation, but I found American Idiot to be something of a work of art.

There's an intricate story there that's not hard to find, and even without that, it's still fun to sing along to and try and learn how to play.
That's my 3 cents, I'm out. It's not just metalheads, shred guitarists, or tru punks that hate them.

Stop the generalizing. There is no answer for why people dislike a band. Its all a matter of personal opinion.

As for screaming...

yes alot of metal has screaming/growls, but when your talking about the holocaust, or killing people are you going to softly sing it? No! Megadeth, Metallica, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden are all metal bands that do not scream.

Open your f**king ears. As for greenday, they are energetic and pretty decent song writters when they try (sure the topics don't apeal to me but w.e) I rather hear them on the radio then most rap (just my opinion).

One last thing about there riffs. Yes they are easy, look where they come from. They are not good musicians, and thats not needed when you come from a punk scene in S.

Personally, I still think they're ****ing amazing. Fine, so its all power chords, but if you think about it HOLY COW at how long they've gone with 3 power chords? (And although I like some metal stuff, I'd still rather listen to a song full of power chords than a 30-minute 'Holy shit, look at my solo skillzzz' guitar wank)
My neighbour is one of the best musicians I know, he plays Bass, and was playing at Degree levels at about 14-15.

Of course most of the music he listens to is 'technically-impressive',
Primus and the likes. Greenday are still one of his favourite bands.
Admittedly, I went off them for a while, after over-listening to American Idiot, they just got boring.

But then a few months ago I started listening again, and its still amazingly fun and listenable music.

There just a harmless poppy band and always have been, same goes for FOB and all the other bands that have to suffer this tedious and arrogant flaming. Name me a 3 chord Greenday song?

Why is everyone doubting Green Day on this one? I've yet to hear one album of their's that is not good. They always put out some great songs, and it's always more than one or two on each album.

None of you here can say that you didn't listen to their last album all the way through and not like at least two of their songs. Billie Joe is a great lyricist too. At least they're not gay asses like MCR!

I don't necessarily like greenday, but my band covered a few of their songs just cos they're crowd-pleasers and fun to play.

Ive got their International Superhits cd and its great, all the Green Day I need. Longview has one of the best basslines Ive ever heard Ooh smoking pot is what Green Day is all about and it's 420. Maybe UG knew this.

After all they said that they had three different types of things in the making, described roughly as: a straight-up punk album, a weird new wave type thing, and a sort of epic American Idiot style record. The new wave one'll be the network's release.

Unless you're counting the song American Idiot, where if you had any reading comprehension abilities whatsoever you'd already know it has nothing to do with the government and everything to do with trying to find your own identity without being duped by TV and the media in an age where images and advertisments and propaganda are being thrown in your face everywhere you look. how many double disc albums can you say are good from start to finish. i can't think of any. guns n roses use your illusions are probably the closest but that could have definately been condensed to one album.

maybe green day will suprise me but i dont think any band could pull off three. there just doing it to be different and most of it will probably appear to be filler. i like them, but this doesnt sound promising!

they were never a punk band to begin with. I would just like to say that the red hot chili peppers (my favorite band) had the same intention of bringing out 3 albums in one year because they had so much material they wanted to use, but they were convinced by warner bros their label to just bring out a double album, needless to say on the singles from stadium arcadium there are some really good b sides, so green day say they're bringing out three albums lets just see what happens, don't forget quantity doesn't necessarily mean quality. A little hard for them to come off of Summer break when it's mid-Spring.

If you think Green Day is repetitive with their chord's well so is RHCP when it comes to making songs about California. 1st Album: Style of Kerplunk, 10,000 Hours, etc.
2nd album: Conglomeration of stuff from Dookie up to American Idiot.

3rd Album: Something new that will blow us all away.

You don't like the Red hot Chili Peppers fair enough but you can't say it's crap or repetitive. Despite the fact that they are almost entirely talentless, you HAVE to give them credit for making it as far as they have with such limited ability.

Granted, American Idiot is a bit of a blip on their career, but Green Day are a rather good band with some great music. Stop flaming them because they're not as technical or as 'underground' as you like.

Actually, the point in being a band is to play music.

Getting popular is only the goal of people who just want to get rich quick. Music that's deep and has meaning to it is the goal of a band, and trust me, I'm in my own indie band right now, plenty of the bands in the scene around here all write some good stuff, that's what being in a band is about, not getting rich. But to stay on topic here, I think it's a marketing ploy, and I was a huge fan of their really old stuff (39/Smooth era) but while I enjoyed American Idiot, it got boring fast.

p.s maybe this time they'll put 4 chords instead of 3..

I don't think this/these album(s) are going to be what everyone thinks they will be. Because if you listen to every Green Day album, none of them are alike, with the exception of the first two. Each of them has a different feel.

It's all about the MUSIC. Sure, I got to admit that their songs are very easy to play and I learned the guitar parts in a few minutes. But Green Day pulled the 3 chord notation off really well.

At least in part. Not in the same sense as The Sex Pistols or The Clash (even though if you start listening to those bands, you realize there's a lot of really poppy stuff). Punk is indefinable because it really has so many elements.

A lot of those elements can be found in Green Day's music (and don't say they're not, because we all know that most of the people here who would disagree don't listen to Green Day enough to know).
And for the record, qhy are you guys so pissed off over them always playing three chords ? I find it ironic that you're complaining about all these short power chord progressions, and then you go and listen to Nirvana or Black Sabbath.

I loved learning guitar to green day, circle jerks and all those catchy powerchord stuff. I may have quit if my first song was master of puppets. I don't listen much anymore and i have progressed to Metallica and pantera (just a couple examples).

When I get stuck in a rut I'll play along with a couple GD albums. It's just fun. Is it okay to play guitar and have fun?

You should get your facts straight before you bash a band. Dave Mustaine(Singer/Songwriter for Magadeth) is a christian not a satan worshiper.

They have sold millions of records worldwide and sell-out almost every concert. Mustaine does not scream and he is considered one of the best guitar players worldwide not just Heavy Metal. his lyrics are socially and politicaly relevant to issues around the world.

Greenday has a talent for writing catchy POP songs that apeal to the masses. There is nothing wrong with that as long as Greenday is ok with it.
