April 15, 2007 -- ON her debut, Avril Lavigne was the quintessential P.O.-ed punk chick.
On disc two, she boo-hooed her way through a bad breakup. For her third CD, the Canadian singer is all hopped up on the kind of pop that ll send you into sugar shock. That said, this upbeat, dozen-song collection will also be a huge success for the raccoon-eyed singer - especially with the super-catchy single Girlfriend spearheading the record.
Yet as a whole, it s a step backward for Lavigne. There s little substance to either her sing-song pop-princess melodies or the cheesy lyrics that she often bleats to the beat. There was a time Lavigne was the bold anti-Britney in a pop wasteland.
Now her music makes Oops! I Did It Again seem like a brilliant achievement. NEW YORK POST is a registered trademark of NYP Holdings, Inc.
