The Motor City Five member, guitarist Wayne Kramer, had previously brought a suit against the documentary's creators, David Thomas and Laurel Legler, claiming they illegally using the band's music in their film, the Detroit News reported Saturday. But now U.S.
District Judge Andre J. Guilford has ruled in favor of the filmmakers, which gets them a step closer to finally releasing the documentary. Guilford wrote: Much of this case rests upon the credibility of witnesses, and the court finds that Thomas and Legler were far more credible than Kramer on key issues concerning alleged promises, representations and commitments.
Then Kramer had music publisher Warner Chappell Music deny a music license to the filmmakers, the report said, which put a stop to the film's release since films have to have a music license to use copyrighted songs. Judge Guilford has not made his final statement, but is expected to do so within the next few weeks.
